Artificial Intelligence has made inroads into our daily lives in unexpected ways, including adult art. With more advanced image-generating tools surfacing online, they have opened up opportunities for NSFW art that may push beyond legal or ethical norms.
After Stable Diffusion’s open sourcing in 2016, communities quickly found ways to use it for porn-generating purposes. Reddit subreddits and 4chan users quickly began posting images created with Stable Diffusion that ranged from anime women to nonconsensual fake nude pictures of celebrities; some sites that host mature content, like FurAffinity or Newgrounds which include images with content filters in place have even banned AI-generated artwork altogether.
As image-generating systems continue to advance, they’re raising difficult ethical and professional dilemmas for both AI ethicists and sex workers. This is especially true for those who use these tools to generate explicit images such as those depicted above — a red-headed woman standing on the moon — or women appearing to possess extra arms sprouting out from them.
Some providers of image-generation systems have taken measures to limit users’ ability to create offensive or sexually suggestive images, including banning specific words from prompts. Midjourney, with an image-generation tool available on Craisyon livestream platform, bans scientific terms related to human reproductive system in an attempt to keep people from creating shocking or gory imagery.
