Common Sense Media conducted a recent study which determined that children are typically first exposed to pornographic content at 12 years of age, according to their latest research. They also discovered that searches for teen pornography have more than tripled since 2005 – Google recorded over 500,000 daily searches for this content during March 2013.
Pornography may provide an exhilarating rush of oxytocin for teens, yet viewing can become addictive and lead to feelings of isolation among them. Furthermore, viewing images rather than real people deprives teens from developing meaningful bonds and can amplify feelings of loneliness in them.
TikTok users who seek to avoid moderation have begun posting pornographic and violent videos as their profile pictures, which is an alarming trend that must be stopped immediately. Such content can lead to depression, bullying and even suicide – this must stop immediately! Parents need to talk to their children about the hazards of consuming adult content online and its potential negative effect on mental health; also teach their kids the difference between healthy relationships and unhealthy ones, how to identify bullying online as well as recognize when someone may be trying to bully them online; so they can identify an unsafe situation sooner so help can be sought out before it becomes too late!
